Breeds western North America from central British Columbia, western Alberta and Montana southern in mountains to extreme north-western Mexico (northern Baja California) and southern USA (western Texas). Winters mainly in south-western USA and Mexico (locally also south to Honduras).

auduboni (Townsend, JK, 1837) - Breeds western North America from central British Columbia, western Alberta and Montana southern in mountains to extreme north-western Mexico (northern Baja California) and southern USA (western Texas). Winters mainly in south-western USA and Mexico (locally also south to Honduras). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Myrtle Warbler (Setophaga coronata).
nigrifrons (Brewster, 1889) - Western Mexico (Chihuahua and Durango). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Myrtle Warbler (Setophaga coronata).
