Eastern Mexico (from southern Tamaulipas and eastern San Luis Potosí) southern on Caribbean slope (except Yucatán) to northern Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and western Panama. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Amazonian Grey Saltator (Saltator coerulescens ).
