Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- cassini (Ridgway, 1908) - Extreme south-eastern Panama (Darién S of Golfo de San Miguel) and northern Colombia (North Chocó east to south Cesar and lower Magdalena Valley south to Bolívar). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Chestnut-backed Antbird (Poliocrania exsul).
- maculifer (Hellmayr, 1906) - Pacific slope in west-central and south-western Colombia (south from central Chocó) and western Ecuador (south to El Oro). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Chestnut-backed Antbird (Poliocrania exsul).
