Andes of Ecuador (from southern Carchi, Imbabura and extreme western Napo south, mainly in central highlands, to Loja), and in Peru southern on western slope to northern Chile (Tarapacá) and on eastern slope to Bolivia (La Paz). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Blue-and-yellow Tanager (Pipraeidea bonariensis).
