Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- tumbezana (Taczanowski, 1877) - Pacific lowlands of south-western Ecuador and north-western Peru (Tumbes, eastern Piura, north-eastern Lambayeque).
- inflava Chapman, 1924 - Arid north-western Peru from central Piura and central Lambayeque south to northern Lima.
- maranonica Zimmer, JT, 1941 - Arid north-central Peru in Marañón Valley, western Amazonas, eastern Cajamarca and eastern La Libertad.
