Andes of southern Peru (central Puno, eastern Tacna), northern Chile (Tarapacá, Antofagasta), western Bolivia (La Paz south to Potosí) and north-western Argentina (Jujuy south to Catamarca). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Plain-mantled Tit-Spinetail (Leptasthenura aegithaloides).
