Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Red-bellied Pitta (Erythropitta erythrogaster).
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
rufiventris (Heine, 1860) - Northern Moluccas (Morotai, Halmahera, Moti, Bacan, Mandioli, Damar, Obi, probably also Kasiruta). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Red-bellied Pitta (Erythropitta erythrogaster).
cyanonota (Gray, GR, 1861) - Ternate, off western Halmahera. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Red-bellied Pitta (Erythropitta erythrogaster).
bernsteini (Junge, 1958) - Gebe I (between Halmahera and Waigeo I). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Red-bellied Pitta (Erythropitta erythrogaster).
