Subspecies
No subspecies.
Forms a superspecies with White-throated Tit (Aegithalos niveogularis), Rufous-fronted Tit (Aegithalos iouschistos) and Black-browed Tit (Aegithalos bonvaloti) and all sometimes treated as conspecific, but they seem to be morphologically fairly distinct from one another and, while ranges overlap only minimally or not at all, there is no evidence of intergradation or hybridization between any of them. Usually treated as conspecific with Black-browed Tit (Aegithalos bonvaloti) (sometimes with both Black-browed Tit (Aegithalos bonvaloti) and Rufous-fronted Tit (Aegithalos iouschistos) when these are combined), but distinctive appearance (closer to that of White-throated Tit (Aegithalos niveogularis)) and geographically remote distribution justify its treatment as a distinct species.
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Rufous-fronted Tit (Aegithalos iouschistos).
