Habitat
Campo grasslands, in arid montane scrub, dry savanna and agricultural land with scattered palms and ground bromeliads. From 1,300 - 2,100 m.

Range (Guide)

Brazil (B).

Highlands of central Bahia, central Minas Gerais and extreme south-western Esp��rito Santo, in eastern Brazil.

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status LC
Habitat destruction and degradation particularly through conversion of land for cattle ranching is the main threat.

Molecular data indicate that genus is sister to Emberizoides, and both appear to belong in tanager family (Thraupidae).
