Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From 750 - 2,500 m.
Costa Rica, Panama.
Mountains of Costa Rica and western Panama (Chiriquí and Veraguas).

Subspecies
Genus has sometimes been merged with Euphonia . Recent molecular-genetic analysis indicates that both genera belong in family Fringillidae. Forms a superspecies, and formerly considered conspecific, with Blue-crowned Chlorophonia (Chlorophonia occipitalis ).
No subspecies.
