South-western Venezuela (Andes of southern Táchira); and Colombia locally in eastern Andes (Norte de Santander), locally on both slopes of central Andes (Caldasâ€"Tolima border), western Andes in Antioquia (La Linda, near city of Jardín) and head of Magdalena Valley in Huila south through Cauca and Nariño to Ecuador and central Peru (Junín).

Despite numerous earlier suggestions to the contrary, morphological and genetic data support placement of this species within present family. Molecular-genetic data indicate that present genus and Nemosia are probably sister-taxa.
