Habitat
Dense stands of montane broadleaved vegetation including low trees, open thickets and humid shrubbery, and sometimes pines. From 875 - 2,000 m, but mostly at 1,300 - 1,800 m.

Status VU
Habitat loss for agriculture and timber is probably the main threat. Predation of nests by introduced mongooses may also be of concern.

Habits
Usually in pairs, but sometimes with mixed-species flocks.
Voice
Song is a short accelerating series of squeaky notes. Call is thin 'tseep' and low chattering.

Affinities uncertain. Differs morphologically from other members of family, and often thought to be better placed with the tanagers (Thraupidae).
Similar Species
Green-tailed Warbler (Microligea palustris) is duller, less contrasting, and lacks white subloral spot and white in primaries.
