Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- forreri (Salvin & Godman, 1886) - Western Mexico.
- notata du Bus de Gisignies, 1847 - Oak-pine forests of eastern Mexico (San Luis Potosí) to northern Guatemala.
- oleacea (Griscom, 1932) - Coniferous forests of Belize to Honduras and northern Nicaragua.
