Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,200 - 3,000 m, occasionally down to 900 m.
Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru.
Eastern slope of Andes from eastern and south-eastern Ecuador south to Peru and west-central Bolivia.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Has been considered conspecific with Hooded Siskin (Spinus magellanicus ), differing mainly in habitat preference, but hybridizes in area of range overlap in north-western Peru. Further research is required.
