Voice
A diagnostic, querulous 'voyp-veeyi' contact call, oftenuttered in flight. Canary-like song is rather wispy, often incorporating the contact call.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Genus formerly subsumed within Serinus, but differs morphologically, in display behaviour and in breeding ecology. Forms a superspecies with Drakensberg Siskin (Crithagra symonsi), and previously considered conspecific.
