Subspecies
Has sometimes been thought conspecific with Yellow Canary (Crithagra flaviventris).
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- maculicollis (Sharpe, 1895) - Extreme south-eastern Sudan, east, central and southern Ethiopia, Somalia, north-eastern Uganda and northern Kenya.
- dorsostriata (Reichenow, 1887) - South-eastern Uganda, western Kenya and northern Tanzania.
- taruensis (van Someren, 1921) - Central and south-eastern Kenya south to north-eastern Tanzania.
