Subspecies
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
- heurni (Sharpe, 1882) - R Mamberamo basin, in north-western New Guinea.
- destructa (Hartert, 1930) - North-central New Guinea in region of Humboldt Bay.
- ernesti (Stresemann, 1921) - North-eastern New Guinea from R Sepik east to Astrolabe Bay.
- grandis (Sharpe, 1882) - South-eastern New Guinea.
