Subspecies
Sometimes considered conspecific with Javan Munia (Lonchura leucogastroides).
The following 6 subspecies are recognised:
leucogastra (Blyth, 1846) - Extreme southern Myanmar (southern Tenasserim), southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and western Java.
everetti (Tweeddale, 1877) - Northern Philippines (Luzon, Mindoro and Catanduanes).
manueli Parkes, 1958 - Central and southern Philippines.
palawana Ripley & Rabor, 1962 - Western Philippines (Palawan) and northern and eastern Borneo (Sabah, Brunei, north-eastern Sarawak and north-western part of eastern Kalimantan).
smythiesi Parkes, 1958 - Western Borneo (western Sarawak and western Kalimantan).
