Eastern Australia, mainly west of the Great Dividing Range, from about Rochkhampton, Qld south to near Canberra, ACT, and exceptionally north to about Cairns, Qld.

Nest
Bottle-shaped, composed of dried grasses, lined with feathers, in tall grass, among thistles or in a low bush.

Eggs (Guide)
4 - 7, usually 5 or 6; pure white; oval; about 17 x 12 mm. Incubation: about 12 - 14 days; by both sexes.

Young
Fledge in about 21 days.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Similar Species
Nutmeg Mannikin (Lonchura punctulata) which lacks the barring on the underparts.
