Habitat
Subtropical and tropical high altitude grassland, inland wetlands. From 1,800 - 3,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Malawi, Tanzania [United Republic of], Zambia.

Highlands of south-western Tanzania, and extreme north-eastern Zambia and northern Malawi (Nyika Plateau).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Previously thought to form a superspecies, or even to be conspecific, with Marsh Widowbird (Euplectes hartlaubi), but recent molecular studies suggest that the two species are not even sister-taxa. May be closest to Long-tailed Widowbird (Euplectes progne).
