Competition and predation from introduced species (cats, brown rats Rattus norvegicus and black rats Rattus rattus) is the main threat.

Food
Insects and invertebrates, seeds, nectar and fruits. Also depredates eggs of other species, especially seabirds.
Voice
A 'tsk tsk' contact call and chattering alarm call.

No subspecies.
Has hybridized with Red Fody (Foudia madagascariensis).
Similar Species
Female, juvenile and non-breeding male Red Fody (Foudia madagascariensis) are similar, but lack yellow wash across face and have more streaked upperparts.
