Subspecies
Old report of hybridization in captivity with Baya Weaver (Ploceus philippinus).

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

flaviceps (Lesson, R, 1831) - Central and south-eastern Pakistan, India (Punjab, Gujarat, and scattered records east to West Bengal) and south-eastern Nepal, south to eastern Sri Lanka.
peguensis Baker, ECS, 1925 - North-eastern India (West Bengal, Assam), Bangladesh, south-eastern Bhutan, northern and central Myanmar, southern China (western Yunnan) and northern Laos.
williamsoni Hall, BP, 1957 - North-western, central and south-eastern Thailand, Cambodia and southern Vietnam.
manyar (Horsfield, 1821) - Java, Bawean (off northern Java) and Bali.
