Lowland rainforest, secondary forest and forest edge, particularly degraded forest around villages. From sea-level - 900 m.

Cameroon (B) (NB).

Southern Cameroon.

Population
Estimated population is 250 - 999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation is believed to be the main threat.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

This species and Bannerman's Weaver (Ploceus bannermani) are sometimes regarded as part of a species group that includes also Black-chinned Weaver (Ploceus nigrimentus), Bertram's Weaver (Ploceus bertrandi) and Baglafecht Weaver (Ploceus baglafecht). Affinity with Strange Weaver (Ploceus alienus) has also been suggested.
