Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest and shrubland, dry savanna and forest.

Range (Guide)

Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], C�te dIvoire, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-bissau, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, Togo, Uganda.

Gambia and southern Senegal, south-western Mali and northern Guinea; and from southern Burkina Faso and northern parts of Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo and Benin eastern in narrow band to west-central Sudan and northern Central African Republic, thence east to western Eritrea and western and northern Ethiopia and, in south, to north-eastern DRCongo, northern Uganda and western Kenya.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Genus sometimes placed in sparrow family (Passeridae).

Proposed subspecies brunnescens (described from Bozoum, in north-western Central African Republic) appears to be inseparable from individuals in rest of species' range.
