The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
potanini Sushkin, 1925 - Russian Altai east to south-eastern Transbaikalia and eastern Mongolia.
davidiana (Verreaux, 1871) - Southern Mongolia and northern China (southern and eastern Nei Mongol south to north-eastern Qinghai).
