Subspecies
Geographical variation rather poorly marked and sometimes treated as monotypic.
Proposed subspecies oraria (described from Magogoni, inland from Dar es Salaam, in eastern Tanzania) is synonymous with bororensis.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
rufitergum (Clancey, 1964) - Extreme south-eastern Gabon, southern PRCongo and south-western and southern DRCongo east to south-western Tanzania, south to Angola, north-eastern Namibia and north-western Botswana.
flavigula (Sundevall, 1850) - South-eastern Zambia, Zimbabwe, eastern Botswana and northern South Africa.
bororensis (Roberts, 1912) - Eastern Tanzania south to Mozambique, north-eastern South Africa (eastern Limpopo Province and north-eastern KwaZulu-Natal) and eastern Swaziland.
superciliaris (Blyth, 1845) - Eastern South Africa (KwaZulu-Natal south to eastern Cape).
