Subspecies
Subspecies mariae and sini sometimes merged with jerdoni. Individuals of this species found in western Guizhou and north-western Guangxi (south-eastern China) appear not to have been assigned to a subspecies.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
ignotincta Hodgson, 1837 - Central Nepal east to Bhutan, north-eastern Indian hill states (except Meghalaya), southern China (south-eastern Xizang, western and north-western Yunnan), and north, western and south-eastern Myanmar.
mariae La Touche, 1921 - Central and south-eastern Yunnan (China), eastern Laos and western Vietnam (south to central Annam).
jerdoni Verreaux, J, 1871 - South-central China (south-central Sichuan, north, central and eastern Guizhou, southern Hunan, north-eastern Guangxi).
sini Stresemann, 1929 - Yao Shan, in eastern Guangxi (south-eastern China).
