Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
nuristani (Paludan, 1959) - North-eastern Afghanistan.
simile Hume, 1871 - Northern and north-eastern Pakistan east to northern India (northern Himachal Pradesh).
variegatum (Vigors, 1831) - Southern Himachal Pradesh east to Uttaranchal Pradesh, western and central Nepal and adjacent southern China (southern Xizang).
