Subspecies
Several further subspecies proposed, including funebris (from north-eastern Qinghai), experrectus (north-western Gansu) and chinganicus (northern Hebei east to north-western Manchuria), but differences negligible or undetectable in larger samples.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
davidi (Swinhoe, 1868) - North-central and north-southern China from north-eastern Qinghai (Qinghai Hu region and Lenglong Ling) east to north-eastern Hebei, extreme south-western Liaoning and northern Henan (Taihang Shan); also, apparently disjunctly, in north-eastern Nei Mongol.
concolor (Stresemann, 1923) - Northern Sichuan (Songpan region south to Baoxing) and adjacent eastern Qinghai (Baima region), in south-central China.
