Timor Leaf Warbler (Phylloscopus presbytes) [XC302576]
by Philippe Verbelen from Mt Manucocco, Atauro Island, East Timor (song)
Subspecies
Possibly closely related to Sulawesi Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus sarasinorum) and both previously thought to form a superspecies with Mountain Warbler (Phylloscopus trivirgatus), Island Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus poliocephalus) and San Cristobal Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus makirensis), but this arrangement not supported by findings from recent molecular-genetic studies. Detailed review of all leaf-warbler taxa in Indonesia and Wallacea required. On Timor, nominate subspecies varies with altitude and geographically, those on Mt Ramelan being paler and greyer than those on Mt Mutis. Further study is required in order to assess whether any taxonomic implications.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
floris (Hartert, E, 1898) - Flores, in west-central Lesser Sundas. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Yellow-breasted Warbler (Phylloscopus montis).
presbytes (Blyth, 1870) - Timor, Atauro and Roti, in south-eastern Lesser Sundas.
