Subspecies
Has sometimes been treated as conspecific with Sulphur-breasted Warbler (Phylloscopus ricketti). Subspecies pernotus considered by some authors to be indistinguishable from nominate. Further study is required.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
cantator (Tickell, 1833) - Breeds eastern Nepal, Bhutan, north-eastern India (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, northern Cachar) and south-eastern Bangladesh, possibly also northern Myanmar. Non-breeding eastern Nepal east to north-eastern India, south to Myanmar, north-western Thailand and north-western Laos.
