Subspecies
Birds from Malashi country, south of Litang (south-eastern Xizang-western Sichuan), described as subspecies meissneri, but probably inseparable from those elsewhere in species' range.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
meissneri Shäfer, 1937 - South-eastern Tibet.
elegans Przewalski, 1887 - Coniferous forests of north-central China to Tibet and Sichuan.
