Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Streak-headed White-eye (Heleia squamiceps) and Javan Grey-throated White-eye (Heleia javanica). Extremely close to black-faced subspecies (frontalis and elongatus) of Javan Grey-throated White-eye (Heleia javanica) species.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- malindangensis (Mearns, 1909) - Western Mindanao (Mt Malindang), in southern Philippine Is.
- gracilis Mees, 1969 - North-eastern Mindanao (Mt Hilong-Hilong, in Diuata Mts).
- goodfellowi (Hartert, 1903) - Central and southern Mindanao (Mt Kitanglad, Mt McKinley, Mt Apo, Mt Matutum, Mt Mayo).
