Subspecies
Most closely related to Rufescent Prinia (Prinia rufescens), which shares its habit of sewing nest into leaves, but the two are vocally and morphologically quite different.
The following 6 subspecies are recognised:
rufula Godwin-Austen, 1874 - Himalayan foothills from northern Pakistan (Muree) east to north-eastern India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya), upland Bangladesh and western Myanmar.
hodgsonii Blyth, 1844 - Western and central India east to lowlands of Bangladesh and Myanmar (Irrawaddy lowlands).
albogularis Walden, 1870 - Southern and south-eastern India (southern Karnataka Kerala, western Tamil Nadu, and eastern Ghats southern from Vishakhapatnam district).
pectoralis Legge, 1874 - Eastern and south-eastern Sri Lanka.
confusa Deignan, 1942 - South-central China (southern Sichuan, western and southern Yunnan), north-eastern Laos and northern Vietnam (Tonkin).
erro Deignan, 1942 - Central-eastern and south-eastern Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, southern Laos and southern Vietnam.
