North-eastern Afghanistan, central and eastern Pakistan (mainly R Indus plain) and north-western and central India (east to eastern Uttar Pradesh, south to southern Karnataka).

Genus often merged with Hirundo, but DNA studies support retention of separate taxa. May form a superspecies with Fairy Martin (Petrochelidon ariel), and sometimes considered conspecific.
