Vagrant to Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Malawi, Tanzania [United Republic of].
Breeds Angola, and from central Namibia, south-eastern Botswana and eastern and central Zimbabwe south to South Africa; migrates north to northern Angola, Zambia, southern DRCongo and south-western Tanzania.

Genus often merged with Hirundo, but DNA studies support retention of separate taxa. Often considered to form a superspecies with Lesser Striped Swallow (Cecropis abyssinica), although ranges overlap widely in southern Africa.
