Habitat
Pine-oak forest and semi-open habitat in mountainous areas. From 1,100 - 2,800 m.

Range (Guide)

Belize, Guatemala (P), Mexico (B) (P).

Breeds western Mexico (north-eastern Sonora south to Jalisco and Michoac�n). Non-breeding range uncertain, probably in South America.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Forms a superspecies with others of genus apart from Brown-chested Martin (Progne tapera). Variously considered to be a subspecies of Purple Martin (Progne subis) or of Caribbean Martin (Progne dominicensis). Sometimes merged with Caribbean Martin (Progne dominicensis) and Cuban Martin (Progne cryptoleuca) as a single species. Has been known to hybridize with Grey-breasted Martin (Progne chalybea).
