Nest
An old woodpecker nest and other holes in dead pines, in caves, boulders in an old bauxite mine and in the eaves of buildings.
Subspecies
Has sometimes been placed in a separate genus Lamprochelidon or Kalochelidon. DNA studies, however, indicate close relationship with Violet-green Swallow (Tachycineta thalassina) and Bahama Swallow (Tachycineta cyaneoviridis).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
euchrysea (Gosse, 1847) - Jamaica.
sclateri (Cory, 1884) - Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic).
