Subspecies
Sometimes considered conspecific with Giant Wren (Campylorhynchus chiapensis), but very widely separated geographically.

The following 6 subspecies are recognised:

albicilius (Bonaparte, 1854) - Northern Colombia and north-western Venezuela (Macaraibo Basin, Falc�n, Lara, western Trujillo).
bicolor (Pelzeln, 1875) - Upper Magdalena Valley and western slope of eastern Andes in Santander and Boyac� (Colombia).
minor (Cabanis, 1850) - Lowlands of northern Venezuela (Cojedes and Apure east to Sucre and Monagas, south to northern Bol��var) and eastern Colombia (Meta).
pallidus Phelps & Phelps Jr, 1947 - Northern Amazonas, in Venezuela.
griseus (Swainson, 1837) - Eastern Venezuela (north-western Amazonas, north-western Bol��var), south-western Guyana and extreme northern Brazil (Roraima).
zimmeri Borrero & Hern�ndez-Camacho, 1958 - Colombia (Huila and Tolima).
