Subspecies
No subspecies.
Formerly considered conspecific with White-tailed Nuthatch (Sitta himalayensis), both having white in central tail, but otherwise morphologically distinct and both occur on Mt Victoria, although probably separated altitudinally. Small size and prominent white supercilium suggest possible affinity with Yunnan Nuthatch (Sitta yunnanensis).
Similar Species
White-tailed Nuthatch (Sitta himalayensis) which has a buffish-chestnut breast and belly and lacks white supercilium.
