Subspecies
Thought most closely related to, and forming a superspecies with, Bendire's Thrasher (Toxostoma bendirei).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
mearnsi (Anthony, 1895) - North-western and central Baja California (southern from c. 31° north and, in east, from 28·5° north), in north-western Mexico.
cinereum (Xántus de Vesey, 1860) - Central and southern Baja California, including islands off south-eastern coast (San José, Cerralvo).
