Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Brown Thrasher (Toxostoma rufum) and Cozumel Thrasher (Toxostoma guttatum), and all are sometimes considered conspecific. Subspecies sennetti intergrades with nominate in southern Tamaulipas (eastern Mexico).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
sennetti (Ridgway, 1888) - Southern USA (south-central Texas) and north-eastern Mexico (south to eastern San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas).
longirostre (Lafresnaye, 1838) - Eastern Mexico (Querétaro, southern Tamaulipas and Veracruz south to Puebla).
