Subspecies
Most closely related to Chilean Mockingbird (Mimus thenca), with which forms a superspecies. Nominate subspecies and albogriseus appear to intergrade in north-western Peru. Subspecies maranonicus doubtfully distinct from nominate.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
albogriseus Lesson, R, 1844 - South-western Ecuador (southern from central Manabí).
platensis Chapman, 1924 - I de la Plata, off western Ecuador (south-western Manabí).
longicaudatus Tschudi, 1844 - Western Peru.
maranonicus Carriker, 1933 - La Libertad (upper Marañón Valley), in north-western Peru.
