Nest
Composed of grass, twigs, straw, feathers and paper in a cavity of a building, tree-hollow or a bulky open structure in dense foliage.
Eggs (Guide)
3 - 6, usually 4 or 5; glossy, pale blue; oblong-oval; about 31 x 22 mm. Incubation: by female.
Young
Fledge in about 20 - 32 days. Fed by both sexes.
Subspecies
Subspecies perhaps intergrade to some extent in south-western India (Kerala).
Subspecies tristis, was introduced to urban mainland eastern Australia, from around Cairns, Qld, south to metropolitan Melbourne and Geelong, Vic., with outliers north to eastern Cape York Peninsula and islands in Torres Strait
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
tristis (Linnaeus, 1766) - Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, southern Kazakhstan and Tajikistan south to south-eastern Iran, Afghanistan and almost entire Indian Subcontinent southern from Himalayan foothills (except Sri Lanka), thence east to Myanmar, southern China (Yunnan and Hainan), Thailand, Indochina, Malay Peninsula and Singapore.
