Subtropical and tropical lowland dry grassland.

Range (Guide)

Algeria, Egypt, Iraq (B) (NB), Israel (B), Jordan (B) (NB), Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Mauritania (B), Morocco, Saudi Arabia (B) (NB), Syrian Arab Republic (B), Tunisia, Western Sahara (B).

Vagrant to Yemen.

Northern Africa east to north-eastern Egypt (Sinai) and from southern Syria south to Israel and north-western Saudi Arabia and east to western Iraq; non-breeding also central Arabia.

Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

moesta (Lichtenstein, 1823) - Northern Africa to north-western Saudi Arabia, Syria and western Iraq.
brooksbanki Meinertzhagen, R, 1923 - Southern Syria to Jordan, north-western Saudi Arabia and south-western Iraq.
