Subspecies
Has been treated as conspecific with Mourning Wheatear (Oenanthe lugens).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

finschii (Heuglin, 1869) - Asia Minor and Levant (including extreme northern Israel) east to western and south-western Iran. Non-breeding also coastal eastern Mediterranean, northern Egypt and Middle East.
barnesi (Oates, 1890) - Eastern Turkey, north-eastern and eastern Iran and western Turkmenistan east to south-central Kazakhstan, eastern Afghanistan and western Pakistan. Non-breeding also Mesopotamia and south-western Asia.
