Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
auroreus (Pallas, 1776) - South-central Siberia and Mongolia east to Amurland, south to Korea and north-eastern China (south to Hebei). Non-breeding Japan, Taiwan and south-eastern China.
leucopterus Blyth, 1843 - North-eastern India and central and eastern China. Non-breeding eastern Himalayas east to northern Indochina.
