Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
pica Pelzeln, 1858 - Northern, western and south-western Madagascar. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Pelzeln's Magpie-robin (Copsychus pica ).
albospecularis (Eydoux & Gervais, 1836) - North-eastern Madagascar.
inexspectatus Richmond, 1897 - South-eastern Madagascar (intergrading with albospecularis in central eastern Madagascar).
