The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

roberti (Alexander, 1903) - Eastern Nigeria, western Cameroon and Bioko I (Fernando Poo).
rufescentior (Hartert, 1908) - Eastern DRCongo, south-western Uganda and Rwanda.
