Breeds east-central China (south-eastern Gansu, southern Shaanxi and northern Sichuan).

Voice
Song consist of rather shrill phrases 'whr'ri-whr'ri' and 'chu'ti-chu'ti' alternated with purring trills, 'hdrriiii-ju'ju' and 'uu ji'uu'. Also soft, subdued 'tup' contact notes.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Sometimes placed in genus Erithacus. Has in the past been treated as a colour morph of Firethroat (Calliope pectardens). Described form Heteroxenicus joannae, later placed in Brachypteryx, is a synonym of present species.
Similar Species
Male Siberian Blue Robin (Larvivora cyane) which has white throat and breast. Female has scaling on underparts, white undertail-coverts, more buff-coloured tail and paler pinkish legs.
